Ereidur Nar'Urszan traipsed through the snowy terrain, wind roaring fiercely. That was it--no more assignments in Yijel. Far too cold and bright for his tastes. He was used to living in a warm-temperature cavern beneath the earth, where it was pitch-black to the visible spectrum of light. He slid briefly over an icy patch, the near-miss effectively shattering further thoughts of the past.
He hoped to get to the barely visible settlement in the distance, the oncoming blizzard making it nigh impossible to see anything more than a few feet in front of ones eyes. Luckily for travelers in the blizzard, the town had put up a beacon of billowing fire in the central tower; this managed to cut through the flurries quite effectively.
The drow pulled his dark cloak tighter around himself, futilely trying to ward off the cold. Most of his body was already numb, despite the layers of clothing he had donned that morning.
After many more minutes of arduous travel, he finally reached the entrance to the town. He looked up, studying the buildings and structures. It looked to be a settlement of several hundred, if that.
He steered himself to what looked like an inn or tavern, gloved hands pushing the door open. He slid inside, hand going to close the door fast behind him so the cold would stay out. When he looked at the inside of the building, he saw a bar with several people at it, booths with varying amounts of people sitting at them lining the walls.
Ereidur walked to the bar his movements more jerky than usual. He sat on one of the rounded seats, not bothering to take off his hood.

Kei, who had been employed to collect something, only was put on a wild goose chase. To put it simply the person who employed her, is trying to get her to find something that did not exist. She frowned walking in the deep snow, each step producing a crunch. The small Mercenary walked back into the inn she had been staying at. The elf who seemed too small in age and size to be a Mercenary did not lack the determination, drive, and ability to fight. Noticing the bar was open she walked towards it, just not to get drunk. In this type of weather drinking alcohol can cause hypothermia. She sat next to the man who seemed to want to get drunk. She let out an exasperated sigh. “You can die if you drink alcohol in the cold like this,” She informed.
The young Mercenary had no problem with duels or battles, which she was disappointed that she hadn’t participated in any in a while. Also she noticed that she was taking more jobs than she could handle. All to evident during the sudden onslaught of symptoms and fever a while back.
Kei’s fiery whisps of hair, which were pulled up into a ponytail, seemed to dance with every step she took. It almost appeared the same as the fire she could conjure. In a small place like this though the only thing fire could be used for is to warm Ereidur up. Not wanting to risk catching the place she had been staying on fire she refrained from using her element.
Kei too was not used to the cold, but she only went around the town asking about this non-existent herb that she had been sent to go find. It was some sort of poison, that’s it no more expeditions or missions by assassins.
The smell of alcohol seemed inviting, but the elf knew that it was too dangerous to drink now. She wasn’t about to freeze to death, just because she wanted to drink. She refused to have a taste of the alcoholic beverages. It would be better to leave the bar completely, though she was bored and if she was lucky she’d have someone to talk to.

"Indeed." Ereidur muttered, head tilting to the side as he considered the young, fiery-haired elf who had sat beside him. "Although you should probably tell the others that." He took a sip out of his mug, feeling the heated water almost burn a path down to his stomach.
"So what's your story?" The drow inquired, barely visible dark crimson eyes looking out from under his hood.

"I am a Mercenary, my gifted element is fire, and my bow and arrow are over there" Kei responded pointing to her weapon on the other side of the room. She then proceeded to tell the other about her fascination with dueling. How when she was a child she dueled a man nearly three times her height and weight, but she left out the part where she lost.

Ereidur blinked as the young elf positively regurgitated her life story. He figured she was young--maybe late teens or early twenties--but he didn't guess she would be so naive. He, for one, would not like to tell a complete stranger basically an abridged blurb of who and what he was.
Even still, he listened as she recounted a story of her fighting a man many times her height...though he sensed she wasn't telling the complete truth.
"Uh... That's, er, nice." The drow replied lamely. "I was more asking what you were doing out here, in the middle of the frozen wastes, but...okay." He paused to finish off his water. "I'm Ereidur." He put out his gloved hand to shake. "A mercenary as well."

"Oh...." Kei whispered embarrassed. "I was sent on a wild goose chase only to find out what I was sent out to find here didn't exist..." she said more loosely. The young elf stood up and collected her bow and the arrows located near it in a single swift motion. "I should put these in my room, are you staying somewhere?" She asked.

"No, actually." Erediur replied, rising out of his seat. "I just got here, and didn't have enough time to get a room." He surveyed the small inn, firelight flickering from several feet away. "I suppose I'd better do that now..."

Kei promptly took her weapon to the small room she had been staying in. She set the bow down with a clunk. Coming back she nodded to the other. "Better hurry the inn is almost full." The young elf hopped onto the chair next to him again. "You said you were a Mercenary?" She questioned curiously, as she wanted to find out about the man.
The thing about Kei and other Mercenaries, they normally get along pretty well, but her will to fight can pose problems. She challenges many other mercenaries to duels and her determination can become quite annoying. She seemed to be laying low, maybe this cold air has froze that hot blood of hers, mellowing her out.

"Yeah." Ereidur said, nodding his thanks to the bartender, one hand taking the key to his room. "I came out here to collect a bounty. Still no luck in finding the target so far."
He looked curiously at the young elf, trying to read her. He could definitely see she was a fighter, despite her youth. She also handled her bow well, which meant she was a fairly competent archer. She had potential, that much was certain.

"I have been looking for a bounty myself, but she is so slippery that she is up for grabs by anyone. Besides many other people have jobs they want us mercenaries to do." Kei said watching some of the other people at the bar drinking heavily. They couldn't be more disgusting in how they were acting. She sighed and looked back to the drow elf. Evaluating him she determined he was atleast ten years older and could easily take her down if the two fought with their fists. She shook that thought out of her head reminding herself that there is a time and place for everything and now was not that time.
Kei silently knew that the other had taken the last room in the inn, and it was the room located directly next to hers. It wasn't the worse thing, though she was planning on leaving the next morning. She mustn't get attached to the other; she had so much she meant to do.

"Sounds a lot like my quarry. Except it was a he, and he was never in Yijel." Ereidur sighed, looking down at his hands. He flexed them, causing the appendages to glow slightly as he channeled a bit of Fire in an attempt to warm them. "Never was very good with Fire...but it'll do."
He flicked a finger absentmindedly, causing the heating effect to cease. Outside, the blizzard raged, even more powerful than it was when he had arrived. All around, the various people were either snoring in their seats or heading upstairs to sleep.
"Hah, I probably won't get much sleep tonight." Ereidur muttered, still feeling chilled despite the crackling fire casting flickering light over the room. The drow rose to his feet, then started off for the staircase.

"You cold? I am gifted with fire. I think a small controlled flame I can handle." Kei said noticing the blizzard outside. No doubt they would be snowed in. For now the two mercenaries couldn't be adversaries. Not like this, not when they were the only one's they could truly trust.

"Yeah, that would be nice." Ereidur said, nodding to Kei. For the moment, he preferred to be able to survive the night in the company of a complete stranger than freeze to death alone. And even if the young elf had plans to attack him, he was more than prepared for such an occurrence--it wasn't very uncommon among mercenaries to kill another merc so as to limit the competition.

Kei let a small fire radiate off her hand staying close to the Drow Elf. "I solemnly swear that I will not injure the other Mercenary during the duration of the blizzard," she swore to him honestly. A small warmth began to form. "I was planning to leave tomorrow, but it appears we'll be snowed in." A shiver ran down her spine, being gifted in fire she hated the cold. She wanted nothing more than to put on her jacket and get snuggled up into a blanket.
The frosty air was probably one of the worst adversaries one could have. Two Mercenaries in a cold climate would be better off as allies. Kei took off to her room grabbing her pillow and blanket from the bed, and her jacket from the hook on the wall. She slipped into the jacket quickly and met back up with Ereidur.

Ereidur wrapped his cloak and blanket around himself, his body shaking unintentionally from the cold. He nodded when Kei swore not to hurt him, for which he was grateful. She seemed like she meant it, but he'd met plenty of mercenaries who were excellent liars.
"This will definitely go down as one of the worst occurrences in my life." Ereidur muttered, moving closer to the young elf's conjured ball of fire.
